Auto Augmentation Breast Lift
Lift and reshape using your own tissue, achieving fuller upper-pole results without implants.
Overview
An auto-augmentation lift reshapes the breast using the patient’s own tissue. Rather than simply removing skin, the lower-pole breast tissue is rotated and secured higher on the chest wall, producing a fuller upper pole and a longer-lasting projection than skin-only mastopexy can deliver, and without the long-term considerations that come with implants.
Dr. Altman’s approach
Auto-augmentation is a technically more demanding operation than a standard lift, and it’s worth doing well.
- A dermal “internal bra” is created from the patient’s own deep tissue, supporting the new breast shape from underneath.
- Lower-pole tissue is rotated up and secured to the chest wall fascia for durable upper-pole fullness.
- Scar pattern matches what would be required for a conventional lift, no additional incisions.
- Best for patients who have adequate breast volume but want it redistributed and lifted, rather than added to.
Who it’s for
This procedure is most appropriate for patients who:
- Have moderate-to-significant ptosis with adequate breast volume.
- Want to avoid implants for personal, lifestyle, or long-term-maintenance reasons.
- Are prepared for a slightly longer recovery than a standard lift.
- Want a fuller, more youthful upper pole that won’t depend on a prosthetic device.
Recovery, week by week
- Week 1: Surgical bra full-time; rest at home; pain managed with non-narcotic regimen for most patients after day 3.
- Weeks 2–3: Light activity and walking; back to office work; no overhead reach or lifting.
- Weeks 4–6: Reintroduce aerobic exercise and lower-body strength work.
- Weeks 6–8: Return to chest and upper-body workouts.
- Months 3–12: Final shape and scar maturation.
Results
Patients keep their natural breast volume but in a higher, more youthful position with sustained upper-pole fullness. Because the result depends on tissue rather than an implant, it ages with the patient rather than separately from them.
